Hi,

I'm a Chinese user. I'm wondering if VeryCD easymule is official emule, or official emule team is now cooperating with VeryCD dev team?

I told my friends (non-Chinese) that the official edonkey and emule, VeryCD easymule is made in China, we Chinese are proud of emule, emule company is one of the leaders of Chinese IT industry. Is this true or false?

VeryCD and easyMule are using eMule source code and modify it. They are NOT by the official team and they are NOT the official eMule for whatever country - there's only one official eMule (the one from www.emule-project.net).
What's even worse is that both clients violate some rules of the official devs (e.g. community functionality) and at least easyMule is also violating the GPL license under which eMule is released. Thus, it's best NOT to use either of them and also tell all your friends about that.

It seems there isn't much to be proud of. If I was you, I would be ashamed instead.

Interesting, considering Emule (I mean the real one) is free.

Is this true or false

It is true some smart chinese took Emule code, rebranded it (violating the GPL) and sold it to gullible chinese people, exploiting the national attitude of "isolation".

Hmmm, this thread gives the impression that Chinese people know nothing about emule-project.net. Does anyone know how user names are managed in those "clients".

Is the default nick "http://emule-project.net" censored? Replaced with the tags [C**][Ver*C*]] and/or a funny nick name. Or perhaps just a link to a very different site? <_<

It is not that they don't know anything, they know a huge pile of lies.
They were told Emule was invented by the guy behind "VeryCD" and/or that Emule is a "chinese invention".
That incredibly smart "chinese invention" lead to a "chinese industry" and they are "proud" of it.
We had something similar in Europe around 1940.

Unfortunately since very few people know chinese and probably not many chinese people know european languages or english communication is difficult if not impossible. Plus, the chinese national attitude is to be quite "close" to strangers, they prefer to deal with their own in any situation, even when they are living abroad.

Hi everyone
Fortunately this is the emule forum .
And it is quite clear that the Chinese, did not invent the emule.
Well..., I think that's all.

It is all if you don't mind of GPL violations and a community mod used by a billion chinese people, that is a big chunk of the network.

Glad to see, you back to the topic that really has to do, with the spirit of this forum, emule.
And yes. Of course I have in mind everything about GPL license, in fact I also use it. :)

I don't think that the communication in English is the cause of VeryCD(company) and its "mods" cheating so many people in China. In my opinion, It's the commercial operation that plays a evil role.
Some emule users in China(including me) know the truth and hate VeryCD. But we have few resources to fight against a evil company(and also its employees). The very things we can do are to tell friends the truth and to write articles about it in blogs or websites.

Unfortunately there are countless frauds, see this site:
http://www.emule.org/
Whatever you click you are requested for your credit card.

Or this other one:
http://www.emule.net/
Where you download a suspicious executable (among the other annoyances).

I bet some people get cheated by these Web sites and I guess EmuleProject don't have the resources for legally suing and/or for shutting down the domains.

The only defense against these frauds is information. Fortunately the Internet does not bring only frauds but also the information for avoiding them.

When a whole nation gets cheated I guess it is because most people have insufficient information and my guess is those people don't access contents that aren't written in their own language so basically they don't have access to the Internet but only to a subsection of it.

So I think the Chinese-Simplified pages should be set up as soon as possible... We should try our best translating...

In fact, VeryCD intends to state itself 'eDonkey'... Well, a dead donkey goes back to live? <_<

It's already a hard task to persuade Xunlei(Thunder) users stop leeching...And yes, some people stop using Xunlei...and turns to EasyMule!

hi, the offical emule is only one, see http://www.emule-project.net

as far as I know, verycd is a shameless company in shanghai, made a phishing site: "http://www.emule.org.cn/" hosts its own community-leech mod called "easymule"(aslo a spy cilent,I'm no doubt they have government background), and alleged themself "emule home"(look the footer @ http://www.emule.org.cn/) and "edonkey official site" on their site.

Their skilled phishing fooled most of chinese (also fooled search engine eg.http://www.google.co...l=zh-CN&q=emule). :-1:

man, that's not your proud of but should be your shame.

Sorry I was wrong. My friends told me that easymule is a new version of emule, the old version can be downloaded on emule.org.cn. Recently I've read news from chinese media saying that emule was about to get chinese business license, but it was still being sued by some chinese copyright holders..

Maybe Verycd is a liar, but I found easymule can access much more files than official emule. I don't know if it can be a reason easymule is better than official emule?

Some people make money
In the east
and in the west
Funny there are still servers
In the east
and in the west
In the middle
there is nearly none left
Perhaps botnets is just friendlier to some
than to the rest

It is time to stop listening to "friends" and go looking for information on the Internet.

Quote

It is time to stop reading chinese media then. Emule does not need any "business license" since there isn't any business involved. In case you haven't got it yet, Emule is developed and distributed FOR FREE, that means you aren't requested ANY MONEY for downloading and using Emule. Emule sources are distributed under GPL license.

I think you still don't understand well what Emule is, in fact:

Sounds like a nonsense. Besides the fact that "chinese copyright" sounds a bit like a joke, see above about GPL.

Does it transform lead in gold too? :)

Nonsense. If esayMule only seeks from eD2k and Kad, no way could it get more search results. In fact the recent version even cut off some search methods...and try to bond users to its own site.

It was said that VeryCD merged something with Xunlei(Thunder) so it can get sources from the latter...No obvious evidence yet.
