Great news and great timing ;) :+1:

A merge based on TS 2.1 is on the make, and it won't be the last one ... - time to start a new subforum for CA (TS) based mods !

The whole stealing saga might have been with lowered significant if it would have been kept with build as beta (aka something like the abandoned "mod version system"). Regardless I do have my own guest about the leaker (I suffered the same with the problematic SharkX 1.8 beta 1 that was removed ...), however the leakage itself might have happened due to good / lucky guess of repository names on a certain server ...
P2P is about sharing, ed2k is my choice !

@tHeWiZaRdOfDoS:
I am seeing in my queue list several "[AdunanzA 3.16]" mods. In theory those mods should arrive from an IP address belonging to Fastweb, an italian ISP. But I've added in my IPFilter all the IP ranges from Fastweb. Checking the details of the queued clients, I see IPs coming from other countries. So I guess there are two options, either Fastweb has got a network also in those countries or those are fake mod strings.
Am I wrong?

Well, everyone is free to use which client he wants... though in case of Adunanza (which STILL is a bad mod) you may have no advantage from using it outside Italy. Of course they may fake their modstrings... but what for?

Hi,

I've been using x-ray 1.7 for some time and liked it a lot. Now I just found this mod on emule-mods and, since it was the only 0.50 mod available, decided to try it.

Two questions:

X-ray shows you the kad client's ip numbers, which was kind of a surprise to me then, since kad is promoted as an "anonymous" protocol (of course, if you're connected to someone, you HAVE to know his ip - there's just no way around it); so, why no other mod shows you those - isn't this creating a false sense of security for users?

How does emule check for mods/mod strings? Many mods have no installer (ts...) and after upgrading/changing mods they end up showing the wrong string (ts, again) - have these strings any significance or do filters check for internal strings/hashes, instead? Hopefully it's the later, otherwise many users would end up being filtered out for no real reason, since they wouldn't even be aware of this kind of "technicalities"...

Cheers!

Who "promotes" kad as "anonymous" exactly?

Technically you could achieve "anonymity" by interposing "proxy nodes" between the two ends of any connection. This way each end knows the "proxy node" IP but ignores the IP of the other end of the connection. Problem is those nodes must spend part of their bandwidth forwarding other people's traffic in and out and this makes that kind of network impractical.

so, why no other mod shows you those - isn't this creating a false sense of security for users?
Emule does not show any IP. I guess modders who don't add this feature think it is useless information for most users.

I guess Emule does not check modstrings.

I guess you are mistaking the modstring as the user nickname. When you change the mod executable file you also change the modstring, since it is hardcoded, given that the client sends one (it is not mandatory).

Isn't so helpful (i know fastweb and community mod issue, of course the fastweb man is faster than external network), anyway thanks!

Adunanza is bad because it downloads files from emule "external" clients via ed2k network without reciprocating unless some "special" conditions are met, which does not happen often and with 1:1 ratio at best.
Yes, I know the Adunanza community advertises statistics that in their opinion demonstrate a (very) positive ratio but as "external" you can easily verify by watching Adunanza clients in your own queque.
Bastard mod had an hardcoded punitive rating for Adunanza clients, aimed to mirror the 1:1 rating of Adunanza. (but I don't know if it is still effective with latest Adunanza versions).
If I remember it well, Adunanza at some point banned Bastard (but I don't know if it still does).
I guess CA enabled mods rely on "behavior evaluating" with Adunanza as any other client.
DLP enabled mods, it depends on the latest update.

On a side note: I've compiled a list of Fastweb IP addresses in case somebody needs it, posted in the italian section. It is made in the IPFilter format. In case you want to IP-filter those addresses you just need the two DPPU ranges, because they are the ones used for the home connections. Previous IPPU addresses are not used any more.

there is no public release of X-Ray based on eMule 0.50a.

No, there will not be a new version of my mods. No, I do not want your PM. No, I am certain, use the board and quit sending PMs. No, I am not kidding, there will not be a new version of my mods just because of YOU asking for it!

at the moment there is no X-Ray release (no beta, no alpha) based on eMule 0.50a....only my daily builds are based on the new official base :P
but this thread is about tombstone, not x-ray...the ip extension in the kademlia window is only a nice to see feature with no real benefit....so i think wizard only implements core features into tombstone to be most lightweight as possible....

Well, "promote" isn't probably the best word - maybe it was just me that was under that impression (no emoticon for :dumb: lol)

I was referring to this (preferences.ini):
[eMule]
AppVersion=0.49c [X-Ray v1.7]

Incidentally, I edited it to match version and mod and I think TS corrected it a bit, afterwards - so, maybe I was jumping the gun? Now:
[eMule]
AppVersion=0.50a | Tombstone v2.1

No, why should it? It's just that the official coders decided not to show the remote clients' ips anywhere (besides the log). The code to display the IPs was written by me as part of the IP2Country KAD enhancement I wrote for iONiX/eMF mod... it's just a "nice2have" thing :)

I don't know if I got this right... do you ask where the modstring is set that is being sent? That's usually hardcoded to the .exe file (at least for all legal mods) and can't change within a session.

About the pref.ini entry: that one is only used to verify if you're upgrading from a different version or starting the same client again (in the first case, we could show an "upgrade" dialog or first-start-wizard) - it's set to the mods hardcoded string, later.
