I currently use xplorer² as my default file manager. It is assigned with folders.
However, eMule doesn't care: When I choose Tools -> Open Incoming Folder..., an Explorer window appears.

According to the source code, it grabs the information how to open the directory from the registry?
Or am I just blind here?

However, it doesn't work right.

I believe that you just mean that HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell\open\command points to xplorer² path.

What about the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell\open\ddeexec key? Have you deleted it?
(or renamed, to be able to restore it if needed)

Nope, Directory, not Folder. According to the source code, eMule takes the "Directory" entry, and xplorer² doesn't actually work with everything Microsoft calls a "Folder" (even the Control Panel entries are "Folders").
(However, changing the "Folder" key doesn't work either.)

It doesn't exist.

That's strange.
I did not look in the source code.
I have only tried to modify the folder open command so that it starts... notepad.exe :P
And this worked, once I have removed the ddeexec stuff...

(XP SP3)

edit:
and here, there are no open or explore commands under the directory key

I'm on Vista here, my XP machine doesn't need alternative file managers...

Does anyone else maybe have an idea?

To find out what registry entry is used you can download Process Monitor from systeminternals.com.

I know that software, but it does too much stuff at once, so it's hard to find out what I actually wanted to know ...

According to it, eMule reads both keys, but primarily the Directory one. Now I just don't know why.

OK, I managed to apply a workaround by renaming the "open" key. But why does eMule read Folder and Drive, too?
