this problem is happening to me very often after dowloading winrar files

I search and dowload a file, i check the size to see if looks right, I read the comments, looks fine, and after i download the file. Well when i tried to unpack the file and i got these messages


The archive is either in unknown format or damaged

No archives found

I have used wizard to open, extract without confirmation, opening, repaired file, and nothing works.

the file got a size so is not empty, looks like winrar, but winrar doesnt recognize it.

Is is just a fake file? corrupted?
Ther is no viruses because i check it with antivirus

Make sure you use at least winrar3.0.
If you still get an error:
Rename to .avi->enjoy your movie.
If this doesn't work:
View the file with a text/hex editor/viewer.
Post the first 10 bytes here.

I trying to open a discography, and this happen to me very often with lots of discography. that is why im asking. I know there is plenty of fake and and bad files, but i dont understand why so many ppl got same file when it doesnt works

the reason I´m asking is because I believe is not rar, but I'curios why so many people got same file when is not working, some of them says 100+, and yes ther are lots fakes, but I'd would like to know if there is a file that is not rar but rar program make it looks like if were a rar file and can't open it, because I dont get it, when i right click says the size, for example 600MB

I checked the ed2k link u gave me and says:

Error: nothing found for

Conclusion is junk

But why so many dumb ppl keep sharing the bloody files? some of then can be 1GB (or is what is says) take ages to downlod

This IS online, and in the online world, there are a lot of disturbed people, doing things just to upset others. This happens to me once in awhile too. This or you try to get a particular cd, and it's someone promoting another band by using the band you're looking for's name. Pretty sad.

It might be mislabeled as something else, so not actually a fake, it could be a ISO cd image or something. Try and preview the archive in the future, the feature is available for archives in the details tab of a file.

There are online services that can check the hash and you can add an entry to the "Webservices.dat". See the Quick Help and Guides for a how-to on that.
