BowlFish was initially added due to the (IIRC illegal) country block feature.

well, you discuss this matter, i think either position is reasonable but probably country block is a rather weak reason. no other user has a disadvantage as the block is either way but the file distribution may be handicapped. imo should country block not be allowed or added.

this mod have an international connection block feature and a special ipfilter based on your isp.
an ipfilter based on isp seems reasonable. but it must give some reason.
international connection block is not good.

functionality can be illegal but this source available to everyone knowing.

bowlfish upload for everyone ,So who is penalized is user Portuguese, no international user in this case..

Portugal is a country of thieves (aka isp) Traffic limits have been to do this as soon eMule..

ex: sapo (isp) 5gb national 35gb International after 35gb paying 100mb 4€
netcabo (isp) 20gb national 50gb international after 50gb paing 100MB 3€
telepact (isp) 2gb national 15gb international after 15gb paying 1.50€
oni (isp) 10gb national 25 gb international.. after 25gb paying 100mb 2€


then came emule bowlfish, for the Portuguese to fall in the space without paying more..

emule bowlfish existed since version 30.. why now ban this mod?

This mod does not bother anything in the network .. although it has functionality to filter,completely different from the functionality of applejuice mod..

It is a necessity and not a Leech for other users..

I hope you reconsider this ban!!

don't confuse rules and gpl! mods in the dlp are added for bad features in the first place and not for being closed source. in fact, i expect bowlfish is not the only bad mod in the dlp with open sources.

first of all, get somebody else to translate your stuff because i cannot even figure out if you are insulting your own people or us.

secondary, i spoke to zz_fly about this and i'll give you just this small portion of it that i think is the most important argument of the chat. bowlfish is trying to create a network within the network only for users from portugal. we can understand the situation is not good for you guys but you need to see the bigger picture and the bigger picture clearly displays the network which is worldwide and not just portugalwide.

now, you mentioned veryCD but you fail to acknowledge that this mod is neither trying to block out other countries nor reserving upload slots for community clients. they are giving a bonus to other veryCD clients but they are also known for uploading a lot, usually.

if you and other portuguese think current programs are not sufficient for the portuguese market code one but do not try to hijack another network and start bitching when rule disobeyment is penalized.

oh and do also note that nobody is forcing ALL portuguese users to use bowlfish. they may as well use vanilla emule or any other emule mod. it's the same with people using AJ... nobody forces them.

just so you know, my own isp is starting to limit my own traffic after 50 gb to 50%, 80 gb to 25% and after 100 gb to 10%. nevertheless am i reaching at least 50 gb every month with downloading just about 10 gb.

there is also a lot of people using umts that need to care about their own traffic. that is complete traffic but as nobody is forcing anybody to use a filesharing tool everyone is free not to use it once the traffic is reached. no reason to break any rules.

I read the source of bowlfish last night.
I noticed that the international filter is not done in the source list, but in client list.
It means the filter is not only filter downloads, but also filter uploads.
This feature is not acceptable in any case.
You’d better ask bowlfish team to remove this feature.

Btw, VeryCD had removed its username boost 3 months ago.
In my opinion, it is not a good mod. But it does not against the rules. It is acceptable.
