Hi everyone,

I'm experiencing a problem with emule that I don't have any clear explanation to know what is happening exactly.

The error name is:

Server UDP socket: Failed to create server UDP socket.

And consequently I cannot connect.

I know this is the official emule board, and I'm using an emule MOD, but my problem is very weird and I think it's also an emule problem for that reason, I would need you please, listen what is happening to me.

I was always using XtremeMod 6.1 with emule 0.48a and never had problems. Actually, I'm using that emule and mod and I'm downloading a lot and all work fine.

The problem began when I downloaded that last version of other mod... MorphXT mod...

Always that I don't load a new emule, mod, etc. Always, I put them in a different folder, to avoid to destroy the information of statistics, etc.

For example... if my actual emule is in E:\emule

And I download a new emule... then I put this new emule in... E:\newemule

Ok?

The Incoming and Temp directories I always have them outside the path \emule... that is I don't have a \emule\incoming or a \emule\temp

I have those directories in the rooth path of my hard disk... E:\Incoming E:\Temp

Why? because if tomorrow I install a new emule always can configure the new emule to work with those directories, reading the temp files, etc.

So when I downloaded the MorphXT emule I put it in a different folder... and run it. Then I saw the assistant to configure the connections, and so on. I told the new emule my opened ports (I'm not silly doing this, I know how to put my opened ports), and then... automatically, I was unable to connect to the Internet... and got this message.

Server UDP socket: Failed to create server UDP socket.

I got shocked and said oh no... and closed emule.

Then I came back to my old emule XtremeMod 6.1 with emule 0.48a... and I opened it.

Then... happened something weird.

I don't got this message again, and I was able to connect to the servers very fast and began to download a lot... all without problems... but... again I saw the assistant... to configure the connections, and so on...

This is weird... because if I have both emules in different directories... why when I run one, close it, and then I decide to run the other one... again I see the assistant to configure all? Why happens that? Both are in different directories, what is happening? :worthy:

Then I tried to do other test...

I said... oh XtremeMod is working fine... so let's download the last version of XtremeMod, the 7.0 with emule 0.49b...

So I downloaded it... and put it, as always, in a new directory...

E:\emulextreme7

Okay... then I enter in the directory and tried to run emule.exe...

Again the error...

Server UDP socket: Failed to create server UDP socket. :furious:

Then I saw the assistant, configured the emule properly, I TOLD EMULE MY OPENED PORTS (sorry the uppercase but I know how to do this and I'm very sure I've configured it well, with the ports).

After configuring it... I closed it... and again I run emule.exe in the new E:\emuleextreme7

(Note I have this new emule in a folder different than E:\emule)

Then... again I got the message...

Server UDP socket: Failed to create server UDP socket. :furious:

And cannot connect to the servers, and so on... so again... I was shocked and closed the new emule... so I decided to go back to my old emule the XtremeMod 6.1 with emule 0.48a... and worked without problems.

But a curious thing... I've lost the flags!!!!

I cannot see the flags of the people...

So... I'm posting this here because I don't expect help with the flags... what I need is to know why is emule giving me those error messages and why is happening these weird things if I have emule always in a different folder of those new emules I download.

The problem is I cannot update to a new emule... and I'm forced to use the old one... because I always get the message... Server UDP socket: Failed to create server UDP socket.

I don't have firewall in the PC.

My antivirus is a normal antivirus the NOD32 2.7 and don't have firewall...

What is happening? How can I solve this?

Thanks a lot

i don't know if this can help you:

http://www.emule-pro...mp;topic_id=122

last words are:

To fix this, you will first have to select a fixed port by inserting "ServerUDPPort=[YourPort]" into the "eMule" section of the preferences.ini and the open this port in your router / firewall for incoming UDP traffic.

cheers

Might be the Options > Extended > [Share eMule with other computer users] > [X Everyone has the same configuration and downloads]. Try the third option.

You know what? this is curious...

I don't have file preferences.ini ??? is this normal?

Well... the only file preferences.ini I have is in one folder called...

e:\backupemule\config\preferences.ini

(i did a copy of my old emule in the backup folder always for security)

but the version I am using right now which is working XtremeMod 6.1 with Emule 0.48a... don't have preferences.ini (and it's working!)

the other versions...

XtemeMod 7.0 with Emule 0.49b don't have preferences.ini (don't work)

MorphXT don't have preferences.ini (don't work)

I think I have a total mess here... may someone help me to fix this?

Is normal the emules don't have preferences.ini file?

I never deleted this file, never... so why I don't have it?

Thanks a lot

That message Server UDP socket: Failed to create server UDP socket is usually due to another application using the port you have set in emule. So be sure there is not a instance of emule running in your computer.

Support for mods might be asked in their subforum.

Cheers :D

Might be the Options > Extended > [Share eMule with other computer users] > [X Everyone has the same configuration and downloads]

-> One and only one preferences.ini used by all your mules ;)

(same thing with "each user has its own config", if you're always the same windows user...)

Yes... but I'm a bit lost... okay...

I don't understand if all my emules use the same preferences.ini...

How do the other emules places in different folders... how they handle to find this file preferences.ini?
I changed the folder of this file preferences.ini and right now it is in J:\backupemule\config\preferences.ini

So how an emule placed in other hard disk E:\emule can know where the preferences.ini file is in other hard disk... J:\backupemule\config\preferences.ini ?

That's the strange thing I cannot understand...

Also what I don't understand is why with this particular emule... XtremeMod 6.1 with emule 0.48a I don't have any problems connecting and downloading... in fact, right now I'm downloading to 60 Kbps of speed and uploading to 14 kbps of speed... is going fantastic...

But the other emules (whatever they be... the original 0.49b... or the original emule with a Mod like the XtremeMod 7.0 with the 0.49b) I still having the same problem... Error: Server Udp Socket: Failed To Create Server Udp Socket.

If this was a problem of ports... then ALL the emules should not work...

But what cannot be possible is one emule work and the others don't work... because all them are using the same ports...

So someone have any idea of what could be happening?

Thanks a lot

PD... The settings of my emule (the one which is working XtremeMod 6.1 with emule 0.48a) is in...

Option... Extended... Sharing emule with other computer users... each user has it's own configuration and downloads...

The emules I have in my PC, all them use the same TCP / UDP ports (the ones I have opened in my router) are...

Emule n. 1 placed in... (don't have the preferences.ini file)

E:\emule (this is the XtremeMod 7.0 with emule 0.49b and DONT WORK... I get the... Error: Server Udp Socket: Failed To Create Server Udp Socket).

Emule n. 2 placed in... (don't have the preferences.ini file)

E:\emule morphxt (this is the MorphXT mod the last version with emule 0.49b and DONT WORK... I get the... Error: Server Udp Socket: Failed To Create Server Udp Socket)

Emule n. 3 placed in... (this emule has the preferences.ini file)

J:\backupemule (this is the XtremeMod 6.1 with emule 0.48a and WORK FINE!!!).

Emule n. 4 placed in... (don't have the preferences.ini file)

J:\emule (this is the XtremeMod 6.1 with emule 0.48a and WORK FINE!!!).

All them use the same ports and those ports are properly opened in my router.
