Hi,
Sometimes the downloaded files don't have the expected format. This is not surprizing. But, I often find the same file format that I cannot identify.
The file begins with binary hex bytes FF FB 10 C0... This is not a multimedia file that can be played with any of the players I have. I could not find any documentation on such files (filext.com, Trid)... some utilies identify this as a mp3 files, but the players don't.
I suspect these files are either the result of some bug in emule or have been corrupted on purpose.
I'd like to know if anybody knows anything about such files.

I think I can't help you identifying those files, but my suggestion, as you said is not to play with suspicious files. And I understand as 'suspicious' files that change from mp3 to binary depending on the utility you are using to open them..

Those files are junk published by a company named MediaDefender.
When searching these files in Kad you can easily recognise them by that the reported bitrate is 32kbit/s which is a little bit low for an mp3.

I downloaded a RAR file 500Mb long that has the same header, for you to know the header, and probably the entire file, is filled with a repeating pattern that starts with FF FB 10 C0 0B030704050b etc.
With Lister (viewer for Total Commander) I searched the first few characters and those repeate themselves every 2% of the 500Mb file.
The first four characters are always the same, for every of these files, yours should be equal.
The rest may change but it didn't on my only file, they repeated chr by chr.
