Hi,

I have a static IP address that ends with .0 (the subnet mask is 255.255.252.0).

I am not behind any NAT, all my ports work ok and moreover I have quite a decent connection (1.5 Mbps both upload and download).

What's more software like utorrent or dc++ work on my connection and computer without any problem.

Also I have unblocked E-mule on my firewall.

Yet I still get low ID on E-mule. What should I do?

You are behind a router and you have to forward ports in it.

Cheers :D

Everyone is behind some router, ussually many routers, but they are of my isp and other corporations.

But as I wrote, ports work ok - I have a public IP Address and I am 100% sure of it.

I believe the problem is with IP that I have. Therefore what should I do?

The messege I got by e-mule is:

Warning # eMule Serverlist Nr.1 # (193.138.221.213:4242) - Your ip (xx.xx.xx.0) ends with a 0. The edonkey protocol assigns a LOWID to you. It's OK, dont panic !

Edit2:

Actully I have a problem described here: http://forum.emule-p...howtopic=121144 ; but I can't change my IP since it is STATIC (yet its totally correct to have IP ended by .0). Therefore what should I do?

Edit1:
While checking porst I got:

Please wait while the ports of your eMule are being tested...

Testing IP: xxx (xx.xx.xx.0)

Starting TCP connection test...

TCP test successful.

Now testing UDP...
Sending UDP packet...
Waiting for result...
UDP test successful.

Connection test finished.

Results in detail:

* Both port tests were successfully finished. Happy eMule'ing!

That's unfortunate! I'm not sure there is anything you can do, other than asking for a different IP. Maybe someone knows different?

No, you HAVE to ask your ISP for an IP change or you're treated as a LowID (this is due to a protocol design "bug" (insufficient knowledge about influence of different subnet masks) which can NOT be healed).

Ah, that's so bad.

My isp won't change my IP, because in his opinion IP like this is fully valid - and actually it's true.

So if there is really nothing I can do about it I have only one thing to say: emule sucks... and edonkey even more...

Its really interesting why they didn't fix this bug, or if they fix it at all in the future... the http://forum.emule-p...howtopic=121144 is more than a year old so it was lots of time to do that, and there can be theoretically 2^23 IP adresses that end by 0, so quite a lot.

Like the message said : Don't panic!

And use Kademlia, it should not be affected by this "IP ending in 0" I think to remember.

Sorry, my fault, I didn't realize you were talking about public ip.

Cheers :D

I tried to use Kademlia, it really looks as if the lowID problem dissapeared (I got an OPEN ID, my DL and UL worked unspeakably faster), but unfortunately it seems that KAD network is much poorer than eD2K; a "search" for come phrases I tried returned only 10% of hits I got with eD2K search, and also there were no files I was interested in...

So unfortunately it's still a shame I can't use e2dk normally...

Yet thanks for your suggestions so far.

Kademlia search is working different from ed2k search :

first searchterm is the "keyword" and you only get search results that match excactly that searchterm.
Searching emul will not find emule.

The second searchterm is always treated as AND searchterm, so emule Basta will find emule BastarD.
You can make it a NOT by searching emule -basta, you can't make it an OR however.

But for searches you can still use the servers - you are just lowID, that's all. Once a download is started, no matter if you found it in serversearch or in kademlia or a ed2klink somewhere, Kademlia will be searched for sources, and most of the sources will then come by client-to-client source exchange anyway.

But I don't want to keep you from claiming that "emule sucks" and binning it.

So all I have is to start dl by eD2Km and then I cant disconnecy and connect only by KAD?

But do I have only to mark file that I want to download it, or at least 1 bit of it must be downloaded?

Moreover I think there will be one more problem - only with KAD I won't find new sources for files, and e.g. there may appear some good new ppl with the file I wan't to whom I have great connection, but still I will be dling from some guy who has nearly no upload.

Anyway its still a lot better than using this shitty edonkey protocol on lowID....

thx once more

You don't need connect to servers to connect to kad if you have a goog nodes.dat like the one you can get from http://www.emule-inside.net/nodes.dat.
Connect to kad only, you can get all sources through Source exchange and passive, just a little slower than connected to both networks.
Anyway low id connection to ed2K network is better than no connection at all.

Cheers :D
