I am attempting to build a private kad network, which is a kad network not connected with the global one.
It will work in a City-Area-Network, and so on.
When will the icons "Shared ED2k/KAD" in the "shared files" tab be shown?
I am trying to search file sources with a private kad network but it does not work.
Is there anyone having done this? Can a kad network working fine in a CAN?
Thanks

I think it should be possible (never tried it though ;) ). You can manually add the IP of another person and all others who want to join need to add an IP of one participant, too (your ports have to be open). But if you still have some nodes of the global kad network, you have to delete your nodes.dat first.

But you should ask yourself if it is useful to do that. As soon as only one person adds a node from the global kad network (or vice versa, if one of the global network adds one of you) your whole private network will become part of the global one.

Kad icon will appear as soon as Kad starts to store your files (will take a while until all files are stored) and ed2k appears when you connect to a server, but that has nothing to do with kad. Of course you can also build up a private ed2k server..)

Thanks.
My network provider offers us a CAN, which is not so easy to connect outside via p2p.
But in the private network data may run fast.
I'm using ipfilter to filt the public ip's, perhaps it will work...
