Hi!

I have just bought a new laptop Acer Aspire 5920 and I simply copied the entire emule folder from my desktop computer and pasted it onto this new laptop. And now every few hours my laptop freezes (mouse simply stops responding, keyboard also) and the only thing I can do is to manually restart the computer. Oh, yes I'm running Vista on both comps (desktop - Vista Ultimate, laptop - Vista Home Premium).

What am I doing wrong and how to fix this. On my desktop it all works fine and it's an old computer. So the laptop should be much better.

Thanx in advance.

First obvious question is are you certain this is caused by Emule?

Yes, because it happens only when emule is running. And I forgot to mention something. This freezing moment only happens when I'm not at the computer. I mean if I go somewhere away from it and leave the emule running. And when I come back, I almost always see that emule is stuck frozen. Sometimes I am able to click something on emule and soon afterwards it gets frozen (all white and unclickable). Just after several moments it all gets stuck. So I guess it's caused by emule or it's settings that were copied wrong from the desktop. I'd like to figure out what went wrong.

Carefully check your power saving settings...

And also screen savers if you use one of the type of living fishes.

Should I use a screen saver or not? What about power settings? What should I be looking for? Because nothing seems to help.

Disable power saving(set to never). Some screen savers, not standrad ones, cause emule stop.

I have no screen savers on, power saving is all off. Anything else? Or could it be a hardware problem. Can emule make it overheat? How can I check that? Sorry for making it a hardware question, but I'd like to rule out everything.

I have just had an idea. Is it possible that emule is causing these freezing moments, because there are too many files (149) downloading at the moment?

How many sources and known clients do you have? Perhaps final hashing in more than one file.

Not too many, for not saying few, sources and clients. Don't you share any file more than those you are downloading?
Have you seeing, in Task manager, CPU and RAM used by eMule?

Just a few sharing. Less than 10. Well, there is emule in Task Manager. CPU usage is jumping up and down. RAM is 64.984 K and going up slowly.

If ram is always growing I think there is something wrong in antivirus.

Can you just copy and past the Emule folders? What about registry settings? I recommend installing emule on the new computer, and then copying whatever files from the old computer that you need for your credit ratings. Just a thought.

Yes you can. Registry settings are unimportant. The only registry setting I know of is for ed2k links.

Nothing seems to work. I'm mostly curious why is this happening when the laptop is idle.

Is it normal to have over 200 MB in a config directory and over 14000 files in temp?
