Few ideas regarding the auto updates:

- How about removing the "Fake Files" auto update filter since it has not been updated for a year and a half?

- And how about replacing the ipfilter.dat update source to openMedia.info ipfilter which is updated regularly.

- Also how about adding a weekly update for the server.met for users who run eMule without restarting it for weeks at a time?

1. I see your point but I think that making users think they have a "fake filter" installed when in reality it doesn't work make them less cautious.

3. Sadly KAD is not a real server replacement (yet). Searches are far less effective when it comes to rare files and new clients need servers to find their first nodes or KAD won't connect. Also there are a few search features that are only available through servers

2.: if that other ipfilter has the same layout you can adjust the url on your own, no need to code something. otherwise we'd have to import it. you requested a replacement but that'd mean we go incompatible with the current format. thus it is smarter to import instead of replace.

3.: that's wrong. kad helps finding sources for rare files. same should apply for file searches. if you are neither connected nor have the server a user with an rare file is connected to in your server list you will never find that user without kad! about the bootstrap... why are you all freakin panicking and coming up with this now? it's not as if it is totally new!

3. You are talking about finding sources for files that are already in your download list. I'm talking about searches. I download mostly rare files and I assure you KAD search usually don't find the files I need only global search. And who is panicking? I just stated that the bootstrap issue is a reason servers are still needed.

Kad should technically be superior to the global search in finding rare files. The problem is that not everyone is connected to Kad hence you can't find rare files of users not connected to Kad.

btw, i am running kad only for more than a year. up to the date i had no problem finding sources, files or bootstrap. it's enough to have one friend giving his ip and port to connect to kad. i really have no clue what makes it that much of a problem!

about panicking? ever since those few servers are down i am reading that kad needs a bootstrap and how much superior (wtf) servers are and how much we need them and how much kad is not able to work alone. christ, it's bloody annoying me! quit it!

In the same theme, KAD saves the nodes conected to nodes.dat when KAD is closed. Why not make an autoupdate nodes.dat from config dir every x minutes or hours? If windows crash or morph, the nodes.dat will be updated and will not lose many nodes...

well, what is bad about that¿ someone might want to download a file but never gets a single byte having probably 128GB blocked on his HDD for no reason. i think the current mode is fine...

Maybe this is one condition.
But I think it better if this Optional.
I personally do not prefer current mode.

If you burn a disc while you are running emule.
You may encounter a sudden speed dropping while emule is allocating full file size for non-sparse part files.
This is NOT predictable.In the worst condition,continuous allocating may cause a burning fail.

And one more FQ.
Is it better to add "Check Fake" in "Shared files" tab like "Search" tab?
Because you may find one file you downloaded fake after you update "fakes.rar".
In current mode,after you update "fakes.rar" you need to search it again to check if it is fake.

Feature Requests ...

1. i like the feature to "import parts to file", but can we take it a step further and have emule automatically offer to combine parts of all files of the same item found on the hard drive, deleting the others and keeping the combined version? over the past few months to years, i have kept large collections of incompletely downloaded files (hundreds) on multiple hard drives. recently, i combined all those incompletely downloaded files onto a single large hard drive. i discovered that i had multiple copies of the same file. now, i'm guessing that emule will try to find sources for each of the same file. i'd rather have emule combine what i've got and go from there ... maybe all my individual parts will equal a complete file.

2. could you add an option to "assign a new category" to files that are being downloaded? i saw that we can assign the file to one of the pre-created categories, but I don't see an option to "create a new category".

Servers did not die, some, but i never have real problem s finding a technically good server.

I prefer all KAD request to go via the kad subforum, maybe our official devs have something to say about it.

if your not running vista Turn On sparse files under extend options that rid the makeing of full files (allso make sure the file system is NTFS)

Tick Create new part files as Spares (NTFS only) (If vista is runing its grayed out)

Untick allocate full file size for non-sparse part files

only down side is files are an tad fragmented untill download has finished but it completely remove the pause
