I've noticed my download speeds are lower when I have Windows Media Player 11 playing. Anyone have any idea why?

My speeds are usually anywhere between 40 and 100, but with WMP on they just about manage to hover around 25-30 and when I close WMP the speeds jump back up again so I'm pretty sure the player is having some kind of affect.

Maybe its worth me asking: is there anything other than surfing the Net, that can affect download speeds of Emule? i.e - through system processes of various programs being used, etc.

I would like to listen to music while using Emule...

hi

streaming music from the internet can affect emule, if your UL limit is set too high

also, emule may suffer if your processor is used at 100% (or hard drive or memory...). This can be a problem on old computers, especially with recent softwares..

anyway, you can try another player

my latest favorite jamendo album (Creative Commons license): CraZyH et Djézinho - Prémis N'1
Could be considered as the male counterpart to zap mama. It's really worth a try, even if you hate hip-hop...
Jamendo tags = beatbox electro ethnique experimental hiphop lounge percussions ragga rap reggae scat soft triphop world

This might affect me, I think my processor might be getting heavy usage, its a cranky old Athlon 2000+, but I've overclocked it to 1.71ghz. I guess I'll just have to assume WMP adds more strain to the processor thus slowing Emule down.

I think it would take too much time and hassle to rate all my tunes all over again, I dont think WMP rating system is carried over onto another player...

And here i am, using my mediaplayer only for playing music and videos.
I feel so old and out of touch now.

Can this WMP make coffee as well ? :angelnot:

Tip: Set emule.exe to a higher system priority if you are using cpu intensive applications. :)

In fact, if your music or movie is NOT being downloaded, you should be WORRIED !
If you can't even give it away for free, how do you expect to sell it, stupid ?
