We're currently looking at possibly 4/5 working servers (with IP Filter) following recent failures which may or may not be permanent.

While this isn't good, there doesn't appear to be a problem with capacity. I can always connect to them. Perhaps it's because many users are using fakes, but it's not important for sources as long as they connect to Kad also.

So we look ever closer to that inevitability of using Kad only. With the exception of users that struggle with UDP it shouldn't be a problem. When/if the time comes it will be interesting to see how it copes.

In order to get into KAD you have to know someone who is already on the inside.
Emule will check all its know clients if they can get you into KAD.

Up until recently, downloading something and connecting to a server was an easy and straightforward way of meeting new clients.
With the demise of ed2k servers, downloading server lists will be replaced by downloading current node lists, with clients already connected to KAD. Some old serverlist download sites are already offering the download of 'nodes.dat'.

When you think about it, all this is very similar to getting invites into private trackers. ;)

P2P is not piracy, it's marketing.
In fact, if your music or movie is NOT being downloaded, you should be WORRIED !
If you can't even give it away for free, how do you expect to sell it, stupid ?

ok, so if im "connected" to kad, it's enough for me to know that all my searches (server (global)) and downloads are performed also on KAD?
i just want to be sure that i wont find myself, at some point, locked outside with no way of getting in :-)

Maybe you've not expressed yourself properly there but, no, you can't do global server searches with Kad, you can only do a Kad search with Kad. As long as you are connected to at least one of the networks, (kad or ed2k servers) you'll still be able to download. Whether or not you'll find the same sources or get the same sort of search results is something that remains to be seen. I found Kad to be quite hopeless at searching last night, compared to a global server search, so I hope it does better with finding sources than it does searching. But I know some people have no trouble finding what they need with Kad searches. And some people have been happy to use Kad only for some time now.

I believe another server (emule serverlist Nr2) just bit the dust, so my global server and server searches aren't returning any results at all right now (I have just usenext.to left in my list)
Are we nearly there yet?

May I answer differently? You do not download neither from servers nor from KAD. All file data exchange goes directly between peers.

Kad is another way to connect to the network, so yes. ;)

One of the ideas is to include ip:port (host name) to the ed2k link, if you post it in forums/sites/etc.
So anyone can bootstrap from this client...

Someone dumped my Mule poor,
Tore his pads, no hope to mend.
But I'll never leave him, sure,
Cause I love my fluffy friend!
(Rus: Уронили Мула на пол, оторвали Мулу лапу. Все равно его не брошу - потому что он хороший!)

That's right if you are still connected, your public ip hasn't changed, and you don't worry about your ip and port been known by every people who gets that ed2k link.

Cheers :D

someone here actually downloads sth using emule in the last 2-3 days?
my servers list is almost empty, i can only connect to a server with 8m files (i used to connect to servers with over 100m files). and even that, nothing downloads. searching gives me some results but when clicking the download, sources are all 0 (zeros) and nothing is actually downloaded/

i tried searching using KAD but it doesnt find anything (im connected to it, unless im doing sth wrong), so all i can say is: emule is dead here, someone here actually uses emule and succeeded with downloading anything?

@ murphys - which server are you connected to - its name and its IP ?

edit: you are aware that we have very few good working servers atm and you've followed a guide such as trebla's in quick help & guides to minimize your chances of getting fake servers?

I've been downloading "normally" too in the last few days.

It was easier answer the question "which server are you connected to - its name and its IP ?" than uploading an image and writing an url that don't get directly the image.

Cheers :D

Please use an image hosting site such as imageshack in the future. Noone wants to have to download and then view a file.

Bootvirus is unknown to me & so I would consider it fake.

Sharing Kingdom are in the lists and found to be operating correctly but their IP's are in filter lists so you should bear that in mind.

UseNext does not publish my shared files. Some confirm this behaviour, others are contradictory.

Peerates only publishes specific files.

TVU definitely ok.
