I had one idea from the heise forum, there was discussed, that one of the wikipedia founders, Jim Wales, wants to built an open source search engine. The project draft is wikiasari.com and google has a lot of press announcements for that listed.
http://www.google.de...wikiasari&meta=

In the discussion is to support the p2p search engine yacy.net
which has one big demo-portal: http://www.yacysearch.com
and each supports can find its stats at http://www.yacystats.de

https://a2.yacysearc...mp;search=emule

I thougt about emule supporting this movement, which could be done very easily and would bring as well benefits to emule.

Would it be possible to habe in emule a tab with a webrowser?
then the search page and the admin page of yacy could be displayed in emuleīs yacy-tab.

Futhermore the emule-installer could integrate the yacy deamon.
As there is a low latency modus, users then can search the yacy-p2p network for websites and are not dependent on google anymore, as emule is always open and running. And: each emule user could index as well some websites.

The question is only, which browser could be integrated in that emule tab. Is firefox possible with the gui of emule? As there is already a yacy-toobar for firefox anyone can try out.
http://www.yacy-webs....php/De:YaCyBar
https://addons.mozil...ication=firefox

Then it would be optional to surf as well with the emule web-browser tab or just to use it to search for websites in emule or to just administrate the yacy node.

As these is really easy to implement, emule would have a good benefit to add a website-search engine, and third it would support the wikipedia project, to have a google alternative in a p2p style ofan open source search engine.

Can of one the Emule developers support this built in webbrowser tab with the default adresss "localhost:8080/yacy.htm"
and the addition of the yacy installer in the emule installer? As there are already 262 Mio Websites indexed for yacy, Emule could push this index to 1000 Mio Websites. Google has roundabout 8000 Mio websites.

Can Emule provide this space with an built in webrowsertab? Which browsercode could be used?

EDIT:

Talking about bloat. Is your current web browser not sufficient?

it would allow to search with emule, not with the browser. Isnīt searching emules main thing?
It is just a tab for k-meleon.

Protip: eMule is not a web browser. Everyone has a web browser. So no need for a tab in eMule when they can open their browser.

Hm I don't think so. Emule's main thing is sharing files. Otherwise eMule would be a search engine and not a p2p client.

In addition to Andu: Also, implementing a web browser is always a bad thing, because different people want different browsers. And since everyone is already using the browser of his/her preference, there is no need to implement one in eMule.

it is not about a browser, it is about adding a search engine for websites / webfiles and the admin panel.

So, and why would one search a website using eMule instead of using his/her browser?

there are two main reasons why a intigrated browser is ver ybad for emule:

- the security leaks of the browser would be included to emule. You can use an other browser (firefox) if you mean that IE isn't secure enough.. but you won't be able to change the browser module of emule.

- websites can produce very nice memory leaks at the browser. That would be funny when the first people complain that emule is using 1 GB RAM after doing some websearches with it :)

Yes, searching the ED2K network, that is. Anything else is superfluous bloat, IMHO. I don't even like the built-in IRC client.

adding yacy to emule has proīs and conīs.
I believe, that a) it could be simple done and B) users can benefit from it and emule as well.

Con:
- its a little bit code to add.
- its a new understanding of emule (added value/search functionality, some describe as "bloating")
- users need to learn.

pro:
- users can search shared directories and the web as well
- users can search for mediafiles, audio and video files hostes anywhere on the web, not only in emule
- users can play around with something new
- users can support the open source search alternative to google in a simple installing way
- emule shows, that it is a search engine for web and open content, and is out of the focus of the riaa as a copyright dealer (after edonkey and razorback I wounder why this network is still not attacked more from them)
- Emule could offer as well a browsing tab for surfing and chatting with web-irc chat, for users, who want this
- Morpheus has webbrowsing tab as well.
- here it is used for the adminstration panel for the open source search engine,
- of course it is a philosophical question to support another p2p project and distribute it with emule.
- it is simple done, as the tab could use the i-explorer module, so just 3 lines of code to create a tab and lauch i-explorer module and integrate the default url for yacy, and the installer to emule installer.
- if k-meleon as gecko is used, then emule is ready to merge as well with mediaplayer www.songbirdnest.com, shareaza has as well a mediaplayer.
- filesearch, hosted on emule-nodes and the web, as well websearch for pages, could be a new art of beeing for emule with just a bundling and a browsing tab.
- users could search for torrentfiles not only shared in edonkey, but as well hosted on the web
- all would be healthy for the p2p networks.
- as the irc-client is built in, why not the tab to launch the i-explorer-module.

here are some links, why it is as well a strategic thing, to have a search engine for mediafiles on the web in emule:
Google invests as well in this. Media hosted on the web is found by google soon.

Microsoft search is in USA 10%, rest is google and yahoo.
http://www.winfuture...news,29665.html

Google wants a search engine für all in the web hosted video (and guess: audio/media) files.
http://www.onlinekos...ideo-Dienst_ein

There is a new mediaplayer:
http://www.songbirdnest.com

which is based on firefox mozilla gecko, designed like itunes, which will be open soruce popular as itunes itself in a few months.

If google indexes the mediafiles hosted on the web and the firefoxbrowser songbirdnest downloads all mediafiles hosted by the web, the I wounder how emule can deny the added path "Http://of the web" in emule.

We could search in emule with yacy all download.com webhosted installer files...

Is there any mod, which has a webbrowser tab?

Echanblard has a built in web browser. It also has features which break the mod rules so it's not wanted on this forum.

Sorry but that post is too stupid to waste my time on it.

If I rememebr right it was also rules compliant.

thanks, here is the source code, it found it,
in the rar, see the subfolder for webbrowser.
this is all we need in emule, it is small, it is chic, it is usable.

ed2k://|file|eMule0.47a_eChanblard_src.zip|9308135|43E189C25669CB2A40159F2A3E9B2486|/

ideas:
- The webbrowser tab could be in order after the search tab of emule
- the browser tab should have the under-title "websearch" and the logo of yacy, which is a whale
- the browser tab "websearch" then has not the home/default url: www.eblanchard.org, but the localhost url for the yacy search homepage.
- in emule stettings/options there is default, that with emule.exe yacy.exe daemon is launched, the installer of emule installs as well yacy and java, which is is as well open source now. (for java there could be a webdownload proove, if already installed)
- yacy allows a low latency run, ask the developer for this default in the yacy installer. This means: yacy does not take much bandwidth, it uses 90 MB ram by default maximum, most 70 Mb. Emule has 5 MB and then user could adjust it over the admin panel.
- if yacy is in emle settings disabled to start with emule, the yacy deamon is not started.

This would be a nice feature to have a websearch in emule and supporting an open p2p alternative of a google.
thanks for an approval.

eMule is just a P2P tool, not seti@home, nor some alternative google network, bittorent, webbrowser, mediaPlayer, DigitalVCR (also no IRC client IMHO, but oh well...) or java-thingy and will most likely never bundle any 3rd party software, no matter if it's open source or not. No need to discuss this any further.

PS:
Is it just me thinking that our friend here somewhat writes and with all his bombastic ideas behaves a bit like MagnetUri, aka. RollerBlade, aka... or am I just getting paranoid? :xgrin:

The worst thing is he wants to bundle a foreign exe file with eMule and it needs Java as well. P2P clients often are memory hogs all by themselves. Using Java on top of that would be too much for many low end systems. Also such a search engine adds more overhead since the entire Yacy search engine is based on a DHT.

And that doesn't even take into consideration anything about adding a webbrowser in eMule.

Ugh, the mere fact that you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not after you.

But then again, there are dead ends and then there are dead ends. It must take an altogether different kind of disorder to start something from zero after it's been made quite clear that it won't happen. Thus it's reasonable to believe that simply some ideas pop up out of the blue every now and then and they need to be shot down as they do. Not entirely different from weed killing, if you think about it.

I've requested some "integration" stuff myself over the years, until I finally understood that eMule won't download and/or chill me any beer, even though it was a darn good idea and would have spared a lot of bandwith that otherwise is wasted on browsing all those "where's-me-beer" websites.
Some files are rare because nobody wants them.

eMule has enough anti-corruption measures.
