Hi...

Anyone got an idea why the Xtreme's implementation of UPnP doesn't recognize all routers? Some guy recently told me that beba (which has the same implementation) doesn't work with his router, and Xtreme does neither...

thx leuk_he.. I just wanted to give the same answer.

about the code itself I can only say: I neither have any experience with UPNP nor can I test myself.. thatīs why someone else developed it for Xtreme. I only fixed some obiuos bugs at the code.

Hmm last time, i checked (too see if there a implentations which could be merged into the official) Xtreme didn't used anything related to Windows UPnP framework but tried to communicate directly with the router via the UPnP related protocols. Unfortunatly those were not implemented properly or better not completely (to keep the code small supposly, since a rela implementation is a lot work).
As far as i saw Shareaza tries/tried to implement a windows based one, but at this time it wasn'T finished and i didnt looked too closely

:-k

You seem to be correct, but the question remains, what router the user is using.
(and if you tell what is wrong with the current morph upnp not to use in official i might try to optimize that.)

Well as far as i remember this implementation had too mcuh overhead when i checked it (in my oppinion), by using the whole UPnP library with their special threads and so on. However that was quite a while ago, it may have changed and when working on it (probably not for the next version but not sure) again it sure is one of the possibilities. To be honest, I would prefer a small and compact windows framework based implementation through, but haven't seen any OS one yet (but i have to look into shareaza again) and coding one from the scratch would be probably too timeconsuming.

Hmmm using the Windows framework would make the code usable only on Windows2K and above, no? At least that's what I remember from the MSDN parts I read about the UPnP stuff... but if it is so then I don't think it's the perfect solution as still a lot of clients use the old (ancient) OS for the mule :D

Hm I also wonder. Tho the Windows framework approach would probably be the cleaner and leaner approach it would not support anything pre Win2k. Until now it always seemed like the devs preferred an approach that satisfied all (most) Windows users. Obviously there are technical exceptions like sparse files because of NTFS.

With what upnp code from what mod?

I am aware now of 3 upnp implementations of upnp in emule mods:
-Morph version (based on MonKi versions that uses a modified portable intel Upnp framework)
-emule future version (Based on MonKI version that uses the windows Upnp service) --> does not work for me.
-Xtreme (based on acat team) --> does not work for me so i badly assumed it alos used the windows framework (NOT). :angelnot:

Yes. The morph upnp code still uses the pthreads lib. It just does not need an external dll for that any more.

I did not recently look at the shareaza code for upnp. I recently hit my head on the upgrade of the upnp lib to version 1.4.1 that was more conformant with the upnp (XML) specs but as a result LESS compatible with some devices. :-1: so i have had my share of upnp problems for now. (but i am still tuning it... e.g. in the next morph version I will move most of the logging to verbose)

PS, it seems that the amule team is also trying to put the portable intel library into their software. Not sure of the state of that code, but it seems to work for some.
