I'm having the same problem nowdays. I can access to just few files, though I'm on server like DonkeyServer No1. What can be the problem if for some files used to be shared with several hundreds of people I can just find it in one?

thank you, as this seems is not working any more.

If and/or when you seem to have no sources, and are certain there should be many available, the most likely problem is that you are connected to a fake server which provides links to non-existant files, or to little or no sources whatsoever, or even worse, provides search results exclusively to files which are riddled with Spyware, Backdoors, Malware, or other unwanted Trojans. Fake servers are also bad in that any files you share will likely not be made available to ANY client in the network.

When this happens, you should do the following steps in order to...

Remove Fake Servers From eMule, and Obtain A List Of Known Good Servers

1: Disconnect from the server.

2: In eMule, click on the Options button, then the "Server" entry in the window that appears.

3: Un-check the following boxes in that window...

[ ] Update Server list when connecting to a server
[ ] Update server list when a client connects

By unchecking these boxes, you are telling eMule to no longer update server data from ANY eMule source, be that server, or clients. It is from these sources that fake servers make their way into your server lists.

4: Press the "Apply" button, then press "Ok" button.

This step is VERY important. If you fail to apply the changes, eMule will accept server data from any source which has a check mark beside it (Step 3), even after you remove all servers from your list as you will in the next two steps!

5: Click on the Servers button in eMule. If you have added any servers to your static list, you need to remove them from the static list.

Servers in the static list will re-appear in the list, even if you delete the server list and shut down eMule. The static list gives you a means to insure that your favorite servers do not get removed. But since we definately want to clean out the server list, including static listed servers, you need to right click on each server that has been added to the list, and select "Remove from static list".

If you click on the "Static" column heading, all of the servers in the static list (marked "Yes" in this column), will be grouped together. You can select multiple server entries by holding down the CTRL key as you select, and then remove them all from the static list with one right click.

6: Once all static servers are removed, right click in the area where all the servers are listed, and select "Remove All". If you have done this step correctly, you should have no servers listed.

If you are paranoid that you may have missed a static server, just shut down eMule and restart it. If all static servers were removed, there will be none in the list after you restart the program.

7: Copy the URL address below

http://www.gruk.org/server.met.gz

8: Paste it into text box below "Update server.met from URL"

9: Click the "Update" button below the text box where you pasted the URL.

10: You should now have a list of servers which include no fake servers. The down-arrow beside the text box should now be accessible, and should also be when you restart eMule. This will allow you to manually refresh the list from the URL address in future.

Optional steps you can take, and I encourage you to do so.

11: If you want, go to Options > Server, and click on the button "List...". Paste the link from step 7 into the Addresses.dat window that pops up. Also make sure NO OTHER lines of text are in that window - just the text you paste in. After pasting in the link in the Addresses.dat window, click "File", then select "Save" from the drop down list that appears. If you want to clean your list of servers out again in future (a good thing to do every month or so), and update your list of servers with a fresh list, you can click this "List..." button to get the links you pasted and saved into the Addresses.dat file.

12: If you want eMule to update the server list whenever you start eMule, tick/check the box labelled "Auto-update server list at startup", and press the "Apply" key. In order for step 12 to work properly, you must complete step 11. Otherwise, eMule will have no addresses from which to automatically fetch server data from.

Personally, I do NOT update servers automatically with my mule. I find it better to leave the server list alone, and only update the list manually, using step 10 above, every few weeks or so. For me, if my list of servers finds my mule sources, and I get no spam results with search, then my server list does not require updating. Of course, if your connection is poor, and frequently causes all servers to be removed, or if your local cable/phone/electrical-power is poor or flaky and causes servers to drop off the list, then auto-updating of servers is highly recommended for your situation.

Notes:

The pasted link I provide is the one I use. There ARE other good web sites which provide server.met files that contain only known good servers, and I do not want to discourage you from using them. Just be certain that you trust them, and be wary of adding too many. The worst thing that you could do is re-introduce bad servers into your server list by obtaining server data from one bad source. If you have two dozen URLs in your Addresses.dat file, and discover a fake server in your list, you'll have a tough time finding out which one was responsible for it ;)

To bookmark this tutorial on removing fake servers and getting good ones, you can click on the "Post #4" at the top right corner of my message, and copy the link it provides , or you can copy the same link here . Once copied, paste the link into the address bar of your browser, and force your browser to load the link. If you have done it correctly, your browser should display the beginning of my message (Not the beginning of the entire message thread). Once you have confirmed it is displaying the start of my instructions, create a bookmark in your browser.

Are you connected with a low ID?
How many results do you get when you do a server-wide search for "linux"?

You may wish to try protocol obfuscation and see if that helps your situation, though 60 results for linux is a rather low figure. Read about it and enable it, and if it doesn't make any difference, let us know.

You forgot one important step - to remove all servers from static list.

Ok I'm having this problem that the file is all green and completing and it is taking over an hour to finish completing. I did what you said or did your suggestions (cleared servers list, updated list) but no go. I'm connected to the byte devils server and their IP is 194.213.0.10. Changing to another server doesn't help. Did you say before that being the file is corrupted is a possibility for this problem?

No. Nothing to do with servers or fakes. Just client struggling to hash or move the file.

Try restarting client.

If that doesn't work then right-click the file, 'details...' and find out which .part file it is.
Close client. Move & rename this .part file manually. Use whatever name you like but obviously use correct extension.
File should be perfectly usable assuming it was valid in the first place.
Restart client and file will have disappeared from download list.

Actually I found a solution in another post and restarted my PC. So it's fine now. Just a tip in case someone else have the same issue if restarting emule doesn't help.

But it doesnt work for me!

You see, I am trying to get rid of all the servers that are in the "Update server.met from URL" section in the "servers" tab.
and right click doesnt work.
and there's no way I can somehow delete all the extra servers in the list of "updates" !
How do I get rid of them?

Thank you all.

Right click on servers in serverlist and select 'remove' to get rid of specific or 'remove all' to clear entire list. What exactly is the problem?
