Hi!

I added Knoppix to the content database and also pushed knoppix to spread better.

Now, there's a new version 5.0.1 out. http://www.knopper.net/knoppix/

The Developer Klaus Knopper mailed me. He asked me to instantly update the links to the new version. But the new version isn't available in the ed2k network.

I need some server to release these Versions. The CD Version will be pushed by my server, but i can only use 100 GB Traffic.

There are 4 big files CD and DVD Version in German and English.

Please help me and suggest me what I can do.

Thanks

Michael Brunner

EDIT:
still one question: The SHA1 and md5 and the asc files are do not have to be released, cause the hashset ist checked by the emule link, isn't it?
What do you think?

It couldn't hurt to include them. They're relatively unobtrusive and the more variety of hashes we have, the better the assurance of security (no matter how overkill it may seem). :)

I agree. You can add the has files to the release. And I also think it would be OK to delete the old version 5.0 from the release and just have 5.0.1 DVDs and CDs. After you make the release complete just say so and I will verify and bump it.

Oh and unfortunately I can't help you with the server. I only have 100 KiB/s UL line at home and it is already busy sharing Kubuntu 6.06 LTS images.

I hope someone else knows about some server to use to spread the files.

Hmm...

Just thought it could be quite confusing to someone not so firm with hashsets....

There are 4 release files and every "file" consists of 5 files. the main and 4 hash things... >> 4*5=20 files...

I could link to the knoppix mirror site to get the signature files there.

The CD Versions are quite good available now...
But i don't have enough space to release the dvd versions...
And btw. I can use much more traffic than i thought, I could.

I just let the knoppix 5.0 there because it is better available.

Could some moderator please verify my informations? Or should I just find the missing DVD ed2k link.

www.heise.de postet a direct link to the emule content page.

It is really important, that the emule downloading works!

Wouldn't it be better to remove the old version. If there is only the latest version left then more people will start downloading it and the more people have it the faster it will spread.

And about checksum files, I would only keep MD5 ones. I guess it is good to have some additional way to check the integrity and I guess MD5 is the most common was for this so I would keep only these.

Yeah! You're right. But the recent DVD Versions are only with 2 sources.

Ok. The German DVD is now also a little bit available.

So could some moderator please update the page.
Add
ed2k://|file|KNOPPIX_V5.0.1DVD-2006-06-01-DE.iso|4344862720|CBA59F8D51F022F86A9AC0B742F475E7|/

and delete the old 5.0 link please.

Thank you

You can edit the release yourself so you get it how you want it. Then I will gladly verify it if you write it here. :)

Should I add a link to http://ftp.knoppix.n.../distr/knoppix/ for those who want to use the MD5 or SHA files?

@ birk: But i don't want the page to be down for too much time.

Look at the file hit counter. It is really important that it is online.

Hey!

I've got an idea!

I could add some http sources to the emule links. Especially the DVDs. That perhaps would help.

What do you think?

I also could add my ed2k static ip adress to the cd links. So they have a good starting point.

What do you think?

The best for knoppix would be, if a small download manager would exist, that everybody who wants to download knoppix has to execute. And this download manager is a small ed2k client. But the user can't see it. The frontend could look like the adobe download manager.

Thank you all for helping me!

I don't particularly see the need, to be honest. If folks just wanted a way to quickly download this stuff with a small-footprint client, wouldn't they just use BitTorrent? And having a neutered ED2K client would defeat the purpose of the network, which is to share files. If you're just going to be shutting down the client after you're done with your download, there is no longer the advantage of large file availability for swarming downloads. You might as well just all download directly from the webserver.

I don't see the need either. I got good speeds when downloading them. :)

Now if we are talking about reasons not to upgrade adobe to 7.x then the download manager is a good reason.

There are three kinds of people in this world: people who watch things happen ... people who complain about things that happen ... and people who make things happen...

Like I said earlier. I check in quite often so time span from release to verification is quite short. Nothing to do about that than releases as much here so I added you as a releaser. :)
