Firstly "Hi", im new to this forum and one of probably a few who arent great with a pc.. I know the general stuff however im here to learn.I have used emule in the past with an older version without any problems and i was very happy.

My pc picked up a nasty virus causing my hard disc to be flattened and started again from scratch. In doing so i lost emule. After downloads the newer version i have had loads of problems..I have read the stickies and the help sections and found several subjects similar to mine but im still not sure of what to do---Sorry folks im another newbie asking stupid questions..Forgive me..... :(

Ok here we go...Uploads are fine. Downloads arent..

When starting downloads everything either goes to Erroneous or waiting.I have tried a port test--all ok.My temp and incoming folders are on my" D" drive ...

One thing is when loading Emule i ran the wizard which i find out later i might have been better cancelling this when i was starting v0.47a.The Temp and incoming folders were never flattened as i said were on my "D"drive it was just my "C" trhat i flattened to start over.

Any advice on where to look would be great, i need it in simple layman terms as i said before im just learning....Thanks and i look forward to being happy once again... :D

Do you have any kind of antivirus/antispyware scanning your eMule directories, especially your temp directory? If so, it may be locking those files so eMule cannot access them. The solution to that is to set your scanning program to exclude that directory (and possibly subdirectories) from the scan. HTH.

P.S. Do you have any files with names containing illegal or non-ASCII characters? eMule cannot save a filename Windows does not accept.

I have now started using McAfee anti-virus...Windows firewall disabled, will check the McAfee.

As soon as i get any sort of download speed next to a file it goes straight to Erroneous and turns black and yellow stripes.....McAfee allows my ports through the firewall as they are in my exceptions catagory.

Any ideas folks--HELP... <_<

try renaming the old folders in d: to something else and recreate the same directory structure in d: again... a reinstall could have changed user permissions/system restore point/blah etc. which may affect emule...

-"Do you have any files with names containing illegal or non-ASCII characters? eMule cannot save a filename Windows does not accept."

try changing the filenames of the dload files to something readable if not already.

Hi everyone
@ markyboy.1967
Adding something:
A file access classification that determines how a file can be viewed or whether it can be edited. File attributes are maintained in the file system's directories, and typical attributes are Read-Only, Hidden, System and Archive.

Read-Only Attribute
A Read-Only file can be viewed, but not changed. (file>RightClick>Properties).
If so, disable it. Emule need edit and write into them.

Thanks for the help everyone so far. I know it must be frustrating being asked the same questions over and over again by newbies....

Anyway, i still havent got to the bottom of my download problem. Checked all of the above answers you folks gave but still everything uis either "Waiting" or "Erroneus". Read the help section on emule and made the changes neccessary but still nothing.....I wont give up though....aaaarrrrghhhhhh.... :(

I used the older version very successfully and didnt have any issues--just wish i could back the way now but me flattening my hard drive stops this.

Is there any of the mods or respected gurus willing to have a look and see for me by remote assistance--only respected members need apply... :D

Close emule,
Rename Temp folder,( Temp2).
reboot emule.
add new download file, and wait for the results, if all is ok, you've a corrupt dl into Temp2 folder.

Tried a few things and finally got my downloads again...yeeeehaaaa...

I scrubbed emule and downloaded again this time useing the wizard. Set up my incoming and temp folders on my "C" drive and all is fine...

Now my "C" is only a small drive and cant store much(40gig).I still have the incoming folders from the previous version of emule which i was using successfully before my pc troubles began which is my big drive on "D"...

What i want to do is move my folders from "C" to my "D" drive for storeage reasons.I think this is where i made the mistake before and emule couldnt find the path....Is there an easy way to do this....Is it just a matter of going into directories, if so there must be a problem with my drive as this is what i did before and i got all the error messages....
Step by step would be good, cant find it on the help section...

Pretty straight forward from the Options > Directories page
Set the new directories there (incoming and temp)...

Then move (exit emule first) the files from the prev temp folder to the new one created on D and restart emule. The files should appear as before in the transfer window.

If you have probs on D: still, then i'm not quite sure what could be the problem. Make sure the drive isn't compressed either (not sure if this matters).

I am getting fast enough downloads which are problem free on my C drive.

If i try to move my emule onto the D drive ( large drive ) i still get the Erroneous and black/yellow stripes.

I did an uninstall and reinstall straight to my D but still the same problem.

I did another uninstall then reinstall into C drive and all is fine again.

Why would i have problems with emle on my large drive.????????

Thanks for the help so far...

1-Move it from C to D.
2-Go to Config folder and delete Known.met & Known2.met files.
3-run emule.

Ok did as instructed and moved emule to D drive, deleted the folders above--still nothing..

When moving emule i right click on it and sent to option but it doesnt show my D drive at all for some reason..End up cutting and pasting the emule file.

I have been reading the help and hints but to no avail...

ElChele you have been very helpful so far and for that im grateful..Cheers..

Anything else i could try before i throw my pc out the window.... :D

Did you change Incoming/Temp path in Options>Directories>Incoming file/Temporary file...???
Shared directories too, you should enable Driver D, and set which dir/Subdir you want share.
apply /accept.
When you install emule and run it, add dl/shared files etc. Incoming/Temp directories appear in scene, in c:prog. file>emule>temp/incoming too.
AFAIK, you want replace them. Well, change the path to both directories, in Options>Directories.
