Hmmm, now why didn't I read this earlier? LOL
My ipfilter list is an absolute masterpiece of messy, unorganised piece of cr*p (but it works fine thou') :P
Thanks for the lessons.

Thanks for the tutorial TRYPSIN! Now I have a question for you. I have a computer that I primarily use for EMULE 0.27C and nothing else except the program itself and the ipfilter.dat feature. I also have Zonealarm and Sygate installed but NOT RUNNING. Do I really need to have either of these software firewalls running?

Just one thing... would the iprange 195.234.134.0/24 for example be a valid one ore should it be translated to xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx - xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx???
Thanks!

Unfortunately you have to translate it in xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx - xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
That format is very useful but not implemented in eMule

Something that might help you create your ipfilter.dat files is at:

http://www.bluetack.co.uk/convert.html

It allows you to convert ipfilter.dat format to and from a number of common formats such as:

PeerGuardian plaintext format
DShield.org text feed
Shareaza xml security digest
Gnucleus GnuBlocked.net
Blockpost plugin for Outpost firewall
BlackICE Defender firewall.ini

It should make the process much easier to convert these files. I am still adding formats to this, so if you have any comments, suggestions, or bug reports, I'd be grateful. You can get my email from the site.

Hope you like it...

Hi there !!
I'm new and there is something I don't understand very well.
For the "access level", all values under 127 are blocked, and all values over 128 are allowed. And by looking at my ipfilter list in emule, I don't understand why some IPs have an "access level" of 120 or 011, etc... and others have an "access level" of 230, 240, etc...

Why not simply writting "000" for all blocked Ips and "128" for all allowed IPs ?

As I would like to make my own list of allowed and filtered IPs for Emule, I don't want to make an error.
:)

@azertybob

Because in eMule's Preferences-Security, you can adjust the access level threshold. The default is to filter ranges whose access value is 0 to 126.
Happiness is a virtuous life in a free society. Yeah, yeah, but what are virtues? Virtues are the excellences of being a person. Duh, then, what is a person? A person is a living being endowed with a mind that includes the intellect whose powers include free will. And you're going to tell me what an intellect is, aren't you? An intellect is that part of the mind that distinguishes mankind from animalkind. So, the excellences of being a person have something to do with the intellect and its will? Yes. I don't suppose a life of sex, pizzas, sex, beer, sex, drugs, sex, rock'n'roll, sex, etc. counts as distinguishable from a life of animalkind? No. Grr!

The idea of IP filtering sounds nice, but when I set the 000.000.000.000 - 255.255.255.255 range nothing appends :(
I'm still downloading/uploading like before....

I use the 0.29a - LSD9c mod. If someone can explain me what's wrong, he's welcome ;)

eMule Morph MOD can now update the ipfilter.dat file by itself when it starts up and within the client.

I make the blocklist and keep it updated, it consists of these three blocklists;

http://www.simplycli...2_plaintext.asp
http://cvs.suche.org...s.php/ip.prefix
http://p2p.redirectme.net/

i was wondering which firewalls support loading of these types of ip adress lists.. i saw BlackICE popup in that converter page bluetack referred to, but I've heard BlackICE is not as good as it promisses..

Any other firewalls which are stable and don't interfere with all the programs in your computer?? ;)

it would make a nice little addition to the first post, wouldn't it?

Try Kerio Personal Firewall. Its free, its very effective and it doesn't conflict with other programs.

Thx Trypsin for this tutorial.

Had tried to use peerguardian, but found it would not even run. Another member here (emzc) suggested using ipfilter.dat instead.

Already have blocked 1 user in my queue.....

I have one banned user in my queue, and yet my ipfilter.dat file is empty. How can this guy be banned?
