Your write that in every reply to me.. Perhaps we didn't understand each other.

15-30 is the download speed for more files, up to 10 files, not for one file (that would be excellent, yes). A lot of the time it stays at just 6, 7..

Before I did have fake servers in my list, but I never connected to them, just to Razorback 2.0, now to Donkey 1 & Em server 1 (which I think is not fake, is a Dutch server, some user here reccommended it here) and the download speeds were much, much higher. And the files in my list were not fake, because many of them downloaded and looked perfectly ok. I have many partial downloads that were downloading fine before and now move nowhere.

So, I really cannot fathom out why my speed and the downloads themselves fell so dramatically if the choice of real servers only servers has nothing to do with it? I connect to the same servers as before, I don't want fake servers in my list, but with only real servers I am getting Nowhere. :(

The more parts you download of a file, the fewer clients there are that have the remaining parts you need. The fewer useful clients there are, the less chance that you are downloading from them (on average). Also there are some files that just a few poor uploading clients have complete. These often download really fast until you have the same chunks as all the other clients that are trying to download it, then you wait and wait. Even a file that you can download at 150kB/s today, you might have difficulty downloading tomorrow as some users have unshared it and other users have given it lower priority than it has today and yet other users will not be online.

Apart from ensuring your emule is well configured and choosing well-sourced files, there is little you can do about download speeds - IMO chance plays a significant role there.

Anyway, I've wandered off topic here....
Back to servers....
Are we nearly there yet?

On average, 15-30, peaking at 50 sounds like a good mule to me

When I said this I was referring to the combined transfer speed of all your files. This is normal. Mule is working well. It is not related to servers (again!)

My best advice is to stop watching your mule and not worry about transfer speeds etc. IMO 15-30 is fast. If you want to fill your bandwidth then you are using the wrong application. Besides, given that your line is asymetric as with most high speed users, you can't upload that fast. For the balance of the network you should never take more than you give. To continually download at 128kB/s and only upload at, say 16kB/s, would be leeching.

hey, just wanted to know if anyone can help me, just recently downloaded e mule, and as soon as i opened it an error message comes up saying 'No server list entry in 'addresses.dat' found. Please paste a valid server list address into this file in order to auto-update your server list'. I then tried updating the list by adding in new servers but when i click on them to connect they turn grey and appear to be dead, i don't know what to do,

Read manual and sticky guides about Low-Id and firewalls. Start a new thread with more details if you still need help.

Thanx for the update. Just saved me posting a new thread.

I was wondering why razorback servers were on my list considering they've been busted.

Cheers. Keep up the good work.:+1:

Do you refer about 2.0/2.1...???, if so, maybe they are in the StaticServer list.
BTW, you can't connect to them, and they became grayet and dead. (only for current sesion).

hi ElChele,
here is a link to a list of servers (and names) from logging over a couple of months. the list has been compiled from with emule running no ipfilter so it contains all ed2k servers (good, bad and downright nasty). also its not entirely complete and contains a lot of dynamic ip servers (probably can delete those). i've left it untouched in staticserver.dat format. when you get it i'll edit the post and remove the link - it's for the database of fakes.

[removed link]

you are welcome to pm me if you'd like it in another format (or an ipfiltered version).

cheers. nice work here! :+1:

Hi moloko+

Done. Thx by the link. :+1: (I must analyze the list)
in fact, the few useful server into this list, they are included in the guide.
BTW, I prefer suggest. few servers, but real one.
IMHO, 5/8 servers in serverlist, it's sufficient. And KAD connnected too (of course) :)

I can't add these manually and connect. I have a Low ID (can't solve the problem since i'm on university) and the only way I can connect to these same servers is to use a server.met file that used to work for me. This way, everything is dead or full.

Whatever I used before had more stats for the files. Now I can only find server.met files on and around the internet that are full of fake servers and don't even have DonkeyServer1. Anyone know where the good server.met files are?

Solution
AFAIK, In your case, it don't exist. (you can try ports 21/80)

Thank you for your help. I'm able to download with Low ID so I continue using the program, I know there is no solution but I don't need high ID...

Anyway I did the steps for your first post but they don't work. I can't connect to DonkeyServer5 by adding it. ;) Once again, with a low ID I find I can connect to these same servers if I use a serverlist met file.

connect to DonkeyServer5, it's only a example, but you can try anyone of the list.
Some servers, they refuse connect to a lowid client. Other servers to allow lowid connection, but not forever.

I've tried anyone on the list, but mysteriously, with my low ID, I can only connect if I update the metfile. I'm not doing the manual connection wrong at all, either. Curious, where did you get that real list met file? I'd like to be able to find an update. Either that, or maybe I should use static?

how can you understand that a server is fake-Spy?
View Post

here are some tips to guess if you may be connected to a fake server:

Notes:
- these tests are not 100% reliable: although many fake servers can be easily spotted, it's very difficult to prove that you are actually connected to a genuine server
- these tests may not be reliable at all if your mule is badly configured or overloaded, or if you got some router / firewall / proxy issues, or if your ISP is blocking/throttling ports, etc...
- when testing servers, you have to connect to each server you want to test. So it's better to do this with a second mule, without any downloads or shared files (unless you are only downloading / sharing legal files, of course :) )

server infos
double-click on the globe in the status bar and look at this:

Quote

eD2K Server
Name: DonkeyServer No5   no server name/description may be suspicious
Description: www.First-Load.de
IP:Port: 62.241.53.4:4242
Version: 17.10   should be one of the latest lugdunum versions
Users: 95,916   the files/user ratio should not be very low or very high; usual values are between 100 and 200 (147 here)
Files: 14,166,284
Low ID: 46,193   Should not be 0 -> false highID
Ping: 130 ms

eD2K Server Features
Soft- / Hard-File Limit: 10,000/10,000   should not be 0 -> no shares allowed
TCP compression: Yes   all these features should be enabled (depending on lugdunum version...)
Short tags: Yes
Unicode: Yes
Integer type tags: Yes
Extended UDP protocol for source requests: Yes
Extended UDP protocol for source requests #2: Yes
Extended UDP protocol for file requests: Yes
Support for large files: Yes
Notes
- if you've just added some servers, the server infos may not have been downloaded yet (with a large server list, this can take some time).
- in the server infos, you can only find some clues, but no evidence; and anyway, many fake servers cannot be detected here.

search test #1
- select the "server" method and search for e
- order the search results first by size, then by type
- compare the results with those found on a reference trusted server, such as DonkeyServer No1

You should find files of any type, but more audio than any other file type, and various values in the availability column (but mostly very low values such as 1 or 2), and various values in the complete column (at least for items with availability > 2).

If the results seem good, this does not prove that you're connected to a real server.

But if you find nothing (obviously :P ), or too many videos, not enough audio, too many cracks or keygens, too many pictures, too many files with a high availabilty, too many 100% complete for large files with a high availability, or other inconsistencies, you can bet you're on a fake server.

[edit: sometimes, you may find many small .wmv porn files with very long names, high availability and often 100% complete (and DRM protected :P ).
IMHO, as long as the remaining results are consistent, this does not denote a fake server: these files are shared massively by commercial porn sites; just an advertising technique, a kind of spamming]

search test #2
select the "server" method and search for emule binaries
if you find no results, this is highly suspicious

share test
- share a unique file created by yourself, with a unique name such as khtfjhjg (make sure that you are not sharing more files than allowed by the server's soft limit)
- make sure that your file is marked as shared on ed2k in the shared files tab Posted Image and wait a few minutes to give some time to the server to update its file list
- search for your file

if you cannot find it, you're probably on a fake server

my latest favorite jamendo album (Creative Commons license): CraZyH et Djézinho - Prémis N'1
Could be considered as the male counterpart to zap mama. It's really worth a try, even if you hate hip-hop...
