Time travel is the way to go. Just travel back in time to the moment the site was still available.

Time travel link

Make sure you do not alter history when traveling back in time.

Wow, I have been out of the loop for a while. When/Why/How did this occur? What is the status of future eserver development?!

The only solid news is that lugdunummaster hasn't posted here since Oct 17 2007, 03:58 AM. The silence is deafening...

If he really gone, we need to make a alternative project now.

Sure is possible make a fully working server software in days. But how many years will need to make a project in that level of performance and stability ?

Problem is not software, but server operators, and lazy emule users.

90% of online servers are fake servers, payed by antip2p companies to push fakes, and viruses that are able to use contaminated PC to send DDOS attacks to 'genuine servers'

You cannot fight against them, really.

You cannot find enough Gigabit links able to receive more than xx millions packets per second on one machine.

Forget about servers and use Kad.

this implies for approximately 5/10000 users of the ed2k network the transition from mldonkey (which does not support the publication on kad nor booting kad network, and will not do it in the short term) to another client, and believe me, it is difficult to give up the so many remote control ways of this client if you run the core on a headless system without xorg installed

lugdunummaster,
Please, turn the server software open-source.

I for sure, will have interest in continue developing it.

I don't think he can.
Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky,
Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die,
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.

Well,
He said that the problem in realease the code, is because it can be used to create fakes servers.
But the RIAA/MediaSentry/.... already showed the capability in create fakes servers,

So IMHO releasing it will create less harm than if let the server die.

We already known that the KAD is not a 100% solution for the search needs. It fail in so many aspects.
For example, all the people will keeping searching for "Dj SOMETHING" where KAD fail at <3 characters.
Have the popular keywork problem. Like search for the song "Max dont have sex" from the Eurodance band "Erotic" will generate no hits at all.

Not sure if it's just the fake server issue. I really don't know what his agreement with Jeds includes. It might disallow him to release the code :P

Doesn't make his agreement with Jeds void though. Contracts don't get voided because people leave the scene.

If that was the case then eMule would have no obligations towards Merkur but in fact it does.

Actually, most Kademlia searches are viable if you keep in mind to order the keywords in such a way that the first one consists of at least 3 characters. So your "Max dont have sex" should be transformed into "dont have sex Max", or something along those lines. This is because only the first keyword is published and the rest are used for filtering the results, thus the strict ordering of the keywords isn't necessarily vital to the results. And remember also that Unicode searches are immune to the 3 character restriction.

bscabral, you're right when you say that Kad cannot replace servers 100%. But in many cases where it seems to fail, the search term just needs some "fine-tuning" to circumvent the restrictions.
As for your examples: As PacoBell said, the keyword just needs to have 3 letters, the order of the words can be changed for this. Looking for "something dj" instead of "dj something" will work fine. You're right that most people probably don't know this and search for "dj something" first. Maybe the popup box should inform about the possibility of changing the word order?
With "Max dont have sex" (actually it already gives me some results in this form) there is another problem: Some users write "dont", some write "don't" in the filenames. Of course you can use OR for this, but easier is to just type "max don have sex". Leave the "t" away will find both "dont" and "don't" (but that's not possible if it's the keyword). To me it doesn't look like "max" is a too common keyword although the problem exists of course (especially with stop words, like "the whatever" will return far less results than "whatever the")

So, if people know about all those things, Kad is a decent solution IMO.

Maybe someone should write a guide how to peform clever Kad searches...
