Webcache - Still Needed / Used / Worth To Keep ? Poll inspired by other topic

Inspired by the other poll, asking for an option to disable WC-Upload I got the idea to ask about Webcache in general. In the other thread the discussion was going in this direction so I want to ask directly:

Is Webcache still needed ?
How many ISPs do still do caching ? (i.e. T-Online disabled caching on its proxies)
How many open / free proxies are abused ?? (i.e. the well known "wcitalia.**-**.info or else)
Are there still real ISP-proxies which still do caching or is Webcache nowadays ONLY used for abusing open proxies ?

Opinions welcome

You want a light mod with source-dropping, Powershare and WiZaRd's ClientAnalyzer ?
Try Spike2-Mod !

You rather want to stick to official eMule but don't want to miss all the new fixes and optimizations from the mods ?

Well I already made my opinion clear in the other thread. I guess I should elaborate.

There weren't so many ISPs that have webcaches anyway and the amount of those has decreased since then. If an ISP like T-Online doesn't allow this usage any more you can be pretty sure that there aren't many ISPs left that will. Also most of the webcache enabled clients that I see have no proxy set or some open proxy.

Even if there is not so many ISPs which have open webcache (I know that in Germny wc is not popular, but eg in Poland there is one wc which is open for everybody, and lot of ppl use it), so that is why I vote "Yes".
Eg: Download from WC is about of 40% of my TOTAL download.
@Famerlor: please dont remove WC from your mod. Im using Spike, because of stable number of slot, upload, great PS, AND WC. Im count that you'll still use it. Dont forget about ppl who use it

There's no bigger need to keep a rarely and only locally supported feature. Additionally, in almost 100% of all
stats for my former mod I saw on an international board WC was disabled anyways.

Voted for no, though that question is obsolete for me personally - WC already got removed from my upcoming
legal mod.

I wote for "No" becouse in the modern days an ISP can not save noticable amounts of traffic using a proxy, over 70% is regulary not chachable P2P traffic, so keeping a proxy server is only waiting og power and hardware and therefor money, I expect that the number of isp's still using proxies will decrease even mor ein the near future.
The next neo version whitch is under developenent will not longer support WC

voted for no because like mentioned few ISP support it and using any other proxy but the ISPs is ridiculing the basic idea.

maybe we should all together remove it at once. sooner or later everyone will move up to an up2date version even though no WC is supported.

Yes, it really is.
Im worry that you no longer want keep WC in your mods. Is it really so hard to keep it as it is right now? I dont want to improve the funcionality of WC...just leave it as it is now.

you can't just leave it like an half-outdated plugin. wc has so many changes throughout the code even the merging means work. when i remember the first time i implemented that feature in the scarangel mod with max_upload i recall an incredible ammount of work.

are you using an public proxy or your ISPs proxy¿ if the first... you are exploiting the server and the feature and thus should not be able to use it!

I used a lot of time ago, with first mod I used, MorphXT, but after a while, I realize that WC download was around 0%, and it still remain 0%. So, in my opinion, it's useless... Better improve kademlia, for example, that waste time on WC...

I voted NO because there are countries like mine where there isn't ANY ISP proxy and ALL WebCache clients are abusing open proxies. Or trying to do that. The fact that the feature doens't harm the ed2k or kad network doesn't make it good. It is a BAD feature and should be removed ASAP.

that's a good idea,
how about consequently droping WC on update to 0.48 code, so that no 0.48 mod will use it anymore.

i agree with that. so i can guarantee that for stullemule and scarangel. i might need to discuss the matter with other morphxt members first but i think this is the best solution.

is there any other mod using wc around here?

Also webcache will lose it's appeal once most clients drop the feature. It works as good as the amount of people uploading to the caches.

Another aspect: Starting from Monday, 3rd September THIS YEAR Webcache won't work anymore, if the code in UploadClient.cpp isn't changed. So we now have the opportunity to drop that feature...

in my opinion, the support of webcache would not have to disappear...

if anybody does'nt want to use it, the option would be due to give to deactivate it completely, but also it would be necessary to give the opportunity to continue using if somebody wants....

webcache has evolved much in the time that takes assets, like now throwing all the effort that has been used in that utility...
