Emule Collection Suffix (extension) from ".emulecollection" to ".ed2k"

possible results:
1. promotes other ed2k clients to adopt the collection format
2. releasers have a single file format to release to. Even though the file could be named "filename.*", such as "filename.txt", it would be simpler if everyone, newbies or experts, knows it as "filename.ed2k" rather then "filename.emulecollection", "filename.amulecollection", "filename.edonkeycollection" ...
3. all the experts here smirks and trashes this newbie for being such a simpleton.

ed2k Stands for edonkey2000. Do you want emule to promote edonkey2000?
.collection would be just fine.

If discussions were bound to the probability of them getting realised this forum would be alot less cluttered.

No, it'd be empty. When was the last time a feature request was addressed by the devs? Even a code snippet, for that matter?
I doubt they even visit this forum section.

About the topic: No its not going to be changed, even if there might have been better choices, it's not worth breaking it just for the name.

Could you elaborate on how an extension change would "break" it?

As far I know (and I hope the following does not show a complete ignorance in computing technology) an extension is by large only an information tag to give the computer a hint of how to handle a given file. (That's why you can get a bunch of files created on a Mac with no extensions at all and you have either to add them manually or you open them from within the appropriate program.) So changing an extension (like to .ed2k which indeed makes more sense, is simpler and more inviting to third-party programmers) is quite easy (witness the myriads of different extensions you can use for an MPEG video file). All that's necessary is to properly associate the file extension with a program. (Something I had to do for .emulecollection too, even though I had to completely reinstall eMule using an full installation with v0.46a - I think it was version a.)
So what would be the problem? Changing... first the extension of the created collections to .ed2k, second the list of file extensions in the search parameter to include both and third the registry (when installing) to handle both extensions with eMule?
As I said earlier, I hope I haven't shown any real lack of knowledge, yet if I did - enlighten me!
